Ronald Bowen
Ronald Bowen was born in 1944 and grew up in Florida. From 1962 to 1967 he studied art, along with music and languages, at Florida State University in Tallahassee, completing his final year at their study center in Florence. This first contact with Europe was a turning point for him.
Having completed his BA diploma in art he taught art for a year at his former high school in Lake Placid. In 1968 he chose to return to Europe to teach and continue his art studies, spending a summer in Paris, then a year teaching in a small boarding school in England followed by a year in Nice, France, enrolled as a full-time painting student at the Ecole Nationale d'Art Décoratif.
In 1970 he returned to Paris as "Artist in Residence" at the Fondation des Etats-Unis, a scholarship offered by the Woolley Foundation. The scholarship was renewed for a second year. In 1973 he began teaching art classes part-time at the American School of Paris and has since made that city his home, retiring from the school in 2008. In 2010 he was awarded the Monique Corpet Prize for painting from the Taylor Foundation in Paris. In 1993 Ronald Bowen received French Nationality, making him a citizen of both the U.S. and France.
The artist lives and works in a light-filled Montmartre studio surrounded with tropical plants overlooking Paris rooftops and the Basilica of Sacré Coeur in the distance.
Ronald Bowen est né en 1944 et il a grandi en Floride. De 1962 à 1967 il a étudié l'art, ainsi que la musique et les langues, à Florida State University à Tallahasee, terminant son année finale à leur centre d'études à Florence. Ce premier contact avec l'Europe fut pour lui un tournant.
Ayant complété son diplôme BA en art il a enseigné l'art pendant une année à son ancienne école à Lake Placid. En 1968 il choisit de retourner un Europe
pour enseigner et poursuivre ses études d'art, passant un été à Paris, puis un an dans un petit internat en Angleterre, puis un an à Nice, en France, où il s'inscrit à l'Ecole Nationale d'Art Décoratif comme étudiant en peinture.
En 1970, il revient à Paris comme "Artiste en résidence" à la Fondation des Etats-Unis, bourse offerte par la Fondation Woolley. La bourse a été renouvelée pour une deuxième année. En 1973, il a commencé à donner des cours d'art à temps partiel à l'American School of Paris et a depuis lors fait de cette ville sa maison, prenant sa retraite de l'école en 2008. En 2010, il a reçu le Prix Monique Corpet pour la peinture de la Fondation Taylor à Paris. En 1993, Ronald Bowen a reçu la nationalité française, ce qui fait de lui un citoyen des États-Unis et de la France.
L'artiste vit et travaille dans un atelier lumineux de Montmartre entouré de plantes tropicales surplombant les toits de Paris et la Basilique du Sacré Coeur au loin.
