Steve Smulka
Born in Detroit, Steve Smulka moved to New York City at age 18 to attend The School of Visual Arts. While majoring in fine art he studied with, among others, photo-realist Chuck Close who had a profound effect on him. After completing his education at the University of Massachusetts, where he received an MFA degree, Steve moved back to New York to continue his painting career.
In 1978 he had his first show at the Soho Center for Arts. As a result of this exposure his paintings began to be collected by some of America’s largest corporations. He has exhibited his work regularly since then. His paintings are now included in numerous corporate and private collections in North and South America, Europe and Japan.
Smulka currently has a studio outside New York City in South Salem, NY and teaches drawing and anatomy at The School of Visual Arts. He began producing limited edition giclee prints in 2002, making his work available to an even wider audience.

Né à Detroit, Steve Smulka s'installe à New York à l'âge de 18 ans pour fréquenter l'école des arts visuels. Tout en se spécialisant dans les beaux-arts, il a étudié avec, entre autres, le photoréaliste Chuck Close qui l'a profondément marqué. Après avoir terminé ses études à l'université du Massachusetts, où il a obtenu un diplôme de maîtrise en beaux-arts, Steve est retourné à New York pour poursuivre sa carrière de peintre.
En 1978, il a présenté son premier spectacle au Soho Center for Arts. Suite à cette exposition, ses peintures ont commencé à être collectionnées par certaines des plus grandes entreprises américaines. Depuis lors, il a régulièrement exposé ses œuvres. Ses peintures font maintenant partie de nombreuses collections d'entreprises et privées en Amérique du Nord et du Sud, en Europe et au Japon.
Smulka a actuellement un studio en dehors de New York à South Salem, NY et enseigne le dessin et l'anatomie à la School of Visual Arts. Il a commencé à produire des tirages de giclées en édition limitée en 2002, rendant son travail accessible à un public encore plus large.
